This icon inspired by the Rublev Icon illustrates the Scripture passage Matt 28:1-10, Luke 24:1-9, Mark 16:1-9.
The Icon shows us the Three Women all perplexed in front of the empty Tomb... The Resurrection of the Lord teaches us that death is a great Passing, a Passover. The tomb holds no one, it is empty. Oh death where is your death?" St. Paul
The Risen Jesus appears first to women - Important event for new life. It is a Woman Mary who gave Jesus Christ to the world. They are women who must announce the new Life of the Risen Jesus, from where they left fearful and trembling "like women giving birth" cf. Father Francesco Rossi de Gasperi.
In this icon the Three Women hold a vase of perfume symbol of life. Life smells good, death smells bad. The 3 together have the shape of a jar of perfume. The 3 dressed in red symbol of love: it is their love that made them run to the Tomb first. Their dresses are green - symbol of life - and blue - symbol of faith.
All this announcement of Life, of Hope takes place in a mountainous frame with a point on the left: election, and tortuous mountain on the right.
All the message that this Icon puts in front of our eyes is to make us aware that every trial, every suffering, every tortuous path leads to Life.
Everything is a passage towards the Glory of the Risen One expressed by the white of the angel.
"Go and announce the Good News to the whole world".
