Born into Greek nobility in Antioch, Saint Luke was a doctor. The day he heard Saint Paul speak of Jesus, who was coming to bring salvation and resurrection, he was converted to the faith of Christ. He became Paul's companion for 18 years, following him first to Asia Minor and then to his martyrdom in Rome in 67. He wrote a gospel and the book of Acts of the Apostles.
Tradition recognizes in Saint Luke the first iconographer of the Virgin and Child.
